FIFA World Rankings: Malaysia Drops to 138th Spot

Subtle Decline for Harimau Malaya

Latest Rankings Released by FIFA

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 – Malaysia's national football team, the Harimau Malaya, have dropped six places to occupy the 138th spot in the latest FIFA world rankings released today. This marks a slight decline for the team, which had previously been ranked 132nd in the March edition of the rankings.

The drop in the rankings comes after a series of disappointing results for the Harimau Malaya, who have failed to win any of their last five matches. The team's recent performances include a 2-1 defeat to Thailand in the AFF Championship final, a 3-0 loss to Japan in a friendly match, and a 1-0 defeat to Qatar in an Asian Cup qualifier.

Despite the drop in the rankings, the Harimau Malaya remain the fourth-best team in ASEAN, behind Thailand (113th), Vietnam (95th), and the Philippines (135th).

The latest FIFA world rankings will be used to determine the seedings for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw, which is scheduled to take place in July. The Harimau Malaya will be hoping to improve their ranking in the coming months in order to secure a favorable draw.

Malaysia's next match is a friendly against Hong Kong on May 28. The team will then play two more friendlies in June, against Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, before beginning their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in September.
