63-Year-Old Male Track Star Retires
Carl Lewis Hangs Up His Spikes
After 63-year career, Carl Lewis retires from track and field
Carl Lewis, the American track and field legend, has retired from the sport at the age of 63. Lewis, who was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1961, is one of the most decorated athletes in history, having won 10 Olympic gold medals and nine World Championships gold medals. He is also the only athlete to have won the 100-meter, 200-meter, and long jump at the same Olympic Games.
Lewis's retirement brings an end to a career that spanned more than four decades. He first rose to prominence in the early 1980s, when he won two gold medals at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He went on to win eight more gold medals at the 1988, 1992, and 1996 Olympic Games.
In addition to his Olympic success, Lewis also won nine gold medals at the World Championships in Athletics. He is the only athlete to have won the 100-meter, 200-meter, and long jump at the same World Championships.
Lewis's retirement is a major loss for the sport of track and field. He was one of the greatest athletes of all time, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
